What is Nasal Endoscopy ?

Nasal endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that allows doctors to examine the nasal passages and sinuses in detail. By inserting a slender endoscope into the nostril, they can visualize the nasal anatomy and identify any abnormalities or conditions that may be causing discomfort or health issues.

The Process of Nasal Endoscopy

During a nasal endoscopy, the patient is usually given a local anesthetic to numb the nasal passages. The endoscope, a flexible tube with a light and camera, is then carefully inserted into the nostril, allowing the doctor to view the nasal cavity and sinuses on a monitor.

Common Conditions Diagnosed with Nasal Endoscopy

Nasal endoscopy is commonly used to diagnose and assess the following conditions:

  • Chronic sinusitis:Inflammation of the sinus cavities causing persistent symptoms such as facial pain, nasal congestion, and difficulty breathing.
  • Nasal polyps:Soft, noncancerous growths that develop on the nasal passages or sinuses lining, leading to symptoms like a runny nose, facial pressure, and reduced sense of smell.
  • Deviated septum:Displacement of the wall between the nostrils, resulting in breathing difficulties and recurrent sinus infections.
  • Allergic rhinitis:Allergic reaction causing inflammation of the nasal passages, leading to symptoms such as sneezing, itching, runny nose, and nasal congestion.
